Auth: two connections, because Webflow puts its two surfaces behind two authorization servers. CMS content uses a Site API token you create in Webflow, scoped to one site. Pages and design use a Webflow OAuth consent through Webflow’s MCP gateway, where you pick which sites to grant. A credential for one surface is not valid at the other.
Token scopes and their reasons: Sites to discover the site and its collections, CMS to draft items, Pages to read content and update SEO fields, Components to read your design system before writing.
Writes: draft CMS items and staged SEO fields, unpublished. The publish action is blocked in code on every path, including the design connection.
Page design edits (elements, styles, custom code, page builds) go through the OAuth connection, which grants read-only on consent. Editing is a separate toggle, off by default per brand. Before any value on a page is overwritten, its prior value is captured so it can be restored per page from the app.
Removing or moving an element on a page the Engine is editing is possible when design writes are on. Those edits have no automatic restore, which is why that connection is opt-in.
Credentials are stored server-side against the brand’s integration record. The API the browser can reach excludes them by design, and they are never returned once saved.
Nothing is installed on the site: no script tag, no plugin, no agent. The connection is API-to-API from BrandViz.AI’s servers.
